Fucked Up, however, are my favorite punk band as far as guitar goes. They have 3 guitarists (plus a bassist) which produces an almost shoegazy guitar tone. They are so far above every other punk band in this regard. |

no punk band can pull off a pseudo-country ballad so convincingly |

but you left off Andy Kerr, so gotta deduct some cool points for that. |

I'm in agreement pretty much here.
I love ****ed up, but I just saw them shortly before the Butthole Surfers show at the Richshaw in Van, and I gotta say the Buttholes were the standouts by far. I stand by my conviction that Paul Leary is one of the best/original guitarists in the world. I love Nomeansno and the last time I saw them (a few weeks ago) was one of the best sets I've ever seen them do. I suppose I should have included Spike Cassidy of DRI. I just saw them in Seattle.
I recommend the San Fran band HIGHTOWER to all who are interested in punk/space rock/thrash music. They seriously rock. |

I find The Day the country died to be one of the best punk albums of all time. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...Pcdl6w&cad=rja |

basically if you don't agree then your punk opinion doesn't really count for much, and to say that Mike Haliechuk is tonally superior to Greg Ginn is idiotic on a galactic level. as for who i think is brilliant Johnny Genzale (Thunders) Tom Verlaine Fred "Sonic" Smith Joe Mellor (Strummer) Brian James Guy Picciotto |

Greg Sage is the first name that comes to mind when I think of the best punk guitarists.

Apparently not.
Like what am I supposed to do - lie and pretend that I like Black Flag more just because everyone else does? We're talking about guitar tone anyways, not the overall quality or importance of bands. |

But if you didn't see that, here's why I like the sound of their guitars more than Black Flag: multiple layers of bright, warm guitar will always be my preference over what I feel to be a, while good, fairly standard punk tone. Sure, I guess that's how their equipment performs, what punk band doesn't use effects? I mean, if that's what makes your music more appealing, go for it. Now, as far as old-fashioned technical ability and writing goes, I will admit that Greg Ginn is a superior guitar player. |

While I can see that, at the same time can you call David Allen Coe punk, being a rebel who doesn't give a fook? Granted his music wouldn't be seen as punk like MC5 can, but he is essentially in the same box in his own right.
