Rick Agnew from the Adolescents and (briefly) Christian Death and Social Distortion. Kids of the Black Hole and Romeo's Distress are my favorite guitar tracks from him.

And Ian Mackeye / Guy Picciotto. Perhaps not brilliant but awesome still, especially on Turnover. If post-punk counts I'ld like to throw in David Ash from BAUHAUS too.

Oh and -Daniel- had a few other projects that were good too; Love and Rockets & Tones on Tail most notably. I think he had a one ep-project called the Bubblemen too that charted. Tones on Tail had a song in a car commercial, the sellouts!

It's Daniel Ash but, yeah, he's a great guitarist.

How can you prefer Verlaine over Richard Lloyd? Lloyd´s guitar was the genius of Marquee Moon.

I have, cant say that i enjoyed it though, same goes for Lloyds solo work. The two produce genius when theyre together but seperetaly theyre pretty bland to me. If i had to contribute to the topic at hand though I suppose The Damneds guitarist is great, Steve Albini got some great sounds out of his axe and although punk rock might not be the best way to describe Screaming Females music, Marrissa Pasternoster is the greatest female guitarist ever.

VanDerGraaf 04-18-2012 01:49 AM

i heard this radio show recently (from krock edmonton if anyones in the area) where they asked who the smartest musician was...

dexter holland of the offspring (although not that great of a guitarist) has a masters degree in molecular biology and is a flight instructor

brian may of queen (although not punk) is a renouned astrophysicist
