Default The Raincoats

The Raincoats were an all-female British post-punk band who are considered to be very influential in the making of indie and alternative rock. I recently downloaded their self-titled, Odyshape, and Moving. So far, I've listened to their self-titled multiple times, and I have to say that it's somewhat reminiscent to The Velvet Underground's early sound. Don't let that dissuade you though... It's a very unique album, and it's in no way trying to mimic VU. I've played through Odyshape only once, and I can't really give a good summary on it except the fact that it's a bit more experimental than their first album. I have yet to play Moving, but I've heard it's much more pop-oriented. Overall, their material can be very whimsical, catchy, and experimental.

Here are a few of my favorite tracks:

So, what do you guys think of them?

Remember listening to them once and thinking they were just alright. They gained some popularity when Kurt Cobain listed that album on his 50 favorite albums.

I have their Self-Titled and Odyshape, both excellent albums. Always preferred them to The Slits, who are good - but The Raincoats are a cut above in my opinion. Been a while since I listened to them, gonna have to dig those albums out.

Anyone heard any other Raincoats albums? I never checked any others out, for whatever reason...

Sorry for the necrobump. I just want to say that I just listened to The Raincoats' debut for the first time, and it's probably the most adorable album ever made.
