Real Friends Transit Handguns With The Punches The Wonder Years Such Gold Pentimento Turnover Man Overboard Joyce Manor (I call them pop punk, others may not)

Pop punk is not really dead, it's just that people are getting the wrong idea. People are labelling Simple Plan and Avril Lavigne as pop punk, and Green Day's Dookie album as straight-up punk.

Green Day was big in the pop/punk genre, and just look at them now, making power pop camouflaged with a punk fanbase...
Avril Lavigne is not punk. Sum 41's newest stuff is not punk. Simple Plan is not punk. Can't see why people are labelling stuff as pop punk when the punk element is missing. Pop punk is commercially written punk rock, not ordinary pop with some "naughty words".

I think there are always good pop-punk bands around, you just have to know where to find them...
I haven't listened to a lot of this genre lately but here are some bands to check out : J Church (The Horror Of Life is a solid album), Crimpshrine, The Ergs! (upstairs/downstairs is an incredible LP), Chinese Telephones, Screeching Weasel (My Brain Hurts is a good place to start), The Measure (SA), The Steinways, The Queers... |
