Local Scene

desperate attempt to try to bring some conversation back here, do you have a local scene?

Sneer 04-06-2005 05:22 PM

my local scene is non existent. bit of a conversation starter for you!

jesus 04-06-2005 05:26 PM

my local scene is a joke.

SATCHMO 04-06-2005 05:46 PM

I just moved to Richmond VA and I'm still trying to get a feel for the scene here. Supposedly its a big punk rock town, but i havent seen it. I just moved from Eugene OR which has a great scene for a town with a population @ 170,000. Mostly hippies and punks. Both respective music styles very well represented in the scene. The hippies are very punk-rock and the punks are quite Hippie-ish so its a very harmonious blend.

my local scene sucks cok!
I am the ONLY punk in my new town and I get all kinds a things yelled at me waling down the street!
there is some people who own a Rcord studio(mushroom production) dow the street and they are cool and accept me for who I am! Johnny Rotten himself paid a visit there!
But I am hoping to bring back the punk scene to this little burg!
it is filled with little 13 year olds that think I am sooooo cool(whoopie...)
LOL!

PREPS!! thats all, there is even a girl that wears shirts that say, "i heart preps" and she said, everyone calls me a prep, so i might as well love them. i wanted to hit her. everyday i swear it looks like she is ready to go golfing. and the guys constantly wear pink and quote napoleon dynamite, all the guys spend more time on their hair than i do. they match everyday. the guys even talk about "thick" and "skinny" stripes and which ones they like better. they like the bigger stripes better. UGH. i want to die

jesus 04-06-2005 08:41 PM

by local scene i meant punk scene but ok...

.angie. 04-06-2005 09:18 PM

oh whoops. nevermind then. there are like two people, they are pretty damn cool people.

hookers with machineguns 04-06-2005 09:27 PM

there's a pretty decent scene in my town, but I'm not in any way a part of it. it's cool though, everywhere I go, I expect to see the same people, and most of em are all nice. Some are really cynical and don't like anyone that doesnt look like them. There's this one bitch that wont even talk to me cause I dont wear punk gear, it's f*cking lame. The little teeny punks really piss me off, they travel in packs, being rude and racist. I swear, kids get worse and worse. But overall it's cool, cause most of the punks I know listen to all kinds of different music; my close friends listen to tons of gangsta rap, it's tight. Sounds odd, but it's fun.

My local scene consists of getting drunk & trying to ignore the bad blues rock band/thrash metal band/nirvana clone playing in the corner

Trauma 04-06-2005 09:43 PM

My local scene is pretty alright since I live near Detroit I get to see a whole bunch of shows and whatnot played by local bands and whatnot. Even the preps here mosh and get drunk, well a couple anyway. But it's pretty cool because I was in a different part of Detroit going to a local show (the entour or something) and I passed by Hotel Yorba. It blew my mind.

hookers with machineguns 04-06-2005 09:54 PM

I went to Detroit a few years ago, and I hated it there. Michigan is cool as balls though, I have family there, but I stay far far away from Detroit. Scary city if you ask me.

Sneer 04-07-2005 10:38 AM

if there is a scene near me, id say its a post-grunge scene

donkeynutz 04-07-2005 11:56 AM

we got a pretty good scene here in Johnstown. not a whole lot of punk, but there's a lot of people involved. always big shows going on.

yea oyr town has a great scene, there's a lot of metal :(, but now we're getting more indie, emo and even some good punk bands again! everyone is really commited, and there is a lot of dedication and a whole lot of talent. 814 Represent \m/

Ive been playing in the Phoenix scene for 12 years now (sounds about right anyways) and ive seen it go through ups and downs. For a long time their was alot of awesome local bands and alot of really cool clubs to play. They slowly started disappearing and for a few years it was almost completely gone. There were still bands touring through and playing, and you could still find punks hanging out at the usuall spots on Mill Avenue but the feel of it changed completley. Its slowly getting better, there are alot of DIY venues popping up and some good bands reforming or being started from members of past bands. It still isnt anything like the feel of the old days, but its getting better thanks to alot of the bands supporting each other instead of stabbing each other in the back trying to be the next "Jimmy Eat World" out of AZ.
