New grunge bands
Everyone says "grunge is dead!" I say you!
What follows is a list of new grunge bands (Post-grunge? Grunge revival?), links to their YouTube accounts, Myspaces, etc... and my favorite song by them. Let me know what you think of these bands and if you know more, add 'em! Sown - myspacedotcom/sownband - "Nurse's Office" Splinter Head - youtubedotcom/punkassnoodles - "Fix My Head" Ill Fate - youtubedotcom/ILLFate187 - "Lost My Mind" Senium - myspacedotcom/senium1 - "Anything You Say" Pet Salad - myspacedotcom/petsalad - "Hollywoodland"

I was into metal the first time flannel rocked the scenes; but I liked it a couple years ago.
I listened to all the songs. Sown >> Rawk'nRoll the dead. +2 Splinter Head :: If New Metal met Layne Staley & held hands Ill Fate :: Would Sound Better with More reverb Senium >::Groovy Fuzz on Toast Pet Salad :: Nirvana worship mixed with shardtpop Maybe I have bad A.D.D.;; but I always find the songs too long.

i find it hilarious that there's now a revival for a style that the vast majority of the bands associated to it never used.
did Nirvana / Mudhoney / Tad / Screaming Trees / Alice in Chains / Soundgarden / Pearl Jam or any of those others call themselves 'grunge' before the press decided they needed a new marketing term to describe them? .... |

As for a grunge revival? Just because it's 20 years after 1991 it doesn't mean that this has to happen. So far the only 'grunge revival' band i've come across is Violent Soho and they're nothing special. It's just media speculation.

on one hand i totally agree that just because it's 20 years later doesn't mean that a revival has to happen. but at the same time pop music has proven stagnant and cyclical for a few decades now. the labels are running scared and haven't dared take a legitimate risk in the mainstream in pretty much ever, which has in turn lead to generations of young musicians who approach the medium for celebrated attention rather than artistic expression (the whole attitude that the audience is 'supposed' to be paying attention to the artist rather than the artist being there to entertain the crowd). i really think the next decade will be interesting as more and more people come into themselves without really having to deal with mainstream mass media as their primary source for cultural identity and expression as they develop and mature into adulthood. |

Anyone heard of them?
So one of my favorite bands on the face of the planet is Saliva. It shocks me that this type of music is still so unheard…and that it came from Tennessee. Their shows are…so freaking amazing and I wish that real life allowed me to just follow the tours around to be a part of every live experience. Their music really…it just speaks to me. I think everyone has a band like that. They just put out this new single, and it’s my determined goal right now to make sure that as many people who love music as much as I do get to hear it and gain them some support. They’ve been at this for more than ten years, and I want to see it all explode for them. A lot of people probably know their son, “Ladies and Gentlemen” from a few years back when it was used for television ads. Oh, their epicness really transcends that song.
If you haven’t heard of them before, check that out. Nothing illegal, just a way to get in touch! |
