Getting things back on topic... I like Joan Jett. She's not my favorite musician by a long stretch but she's certainly written some great straightforward rockin' stuff and she has an undeniable coolness factor.

Anyone ever seen the movie she was in with Michael J. Fox, Light of Day? Pretty good little music flick written and directed by the guy who wrote Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and a bunch of other stuff. Also features a brief appearance by Trent Reznor before he was famous and before there was any such thing as Nine Inch Nails.

I like her as well. My favorite part of her history is her determined ambition to get a solo career going after the fall of The Runaways with some good sharp energy-driven music. "You Don't Know What You Got" remains my favorite of the early Post-Runaways songs, and captures almost everything that's great about her music.

"You Don't Know What You Got" remains one of my favs by Jett too!

Around 1981 I was going to see Triumph in concert with Diesel opening (They had a minor hit with "Summer Nights in Sausalito") & early in the morning the day of the show it was announced on the radio that Joan Jett & the Blackhearts were added to the bill. The first thing I thought of was a photo of Jett & Cherie Currie that was in Creem Magazine(I really loved Jett's look). I knew of "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways but that was all I knew. The DJ then played "Too Bad on Your Birthday" off of her debut album & I thought it was great (I was familiar with the song as it was on Ram Jam's debut record. I was psyched for the show & I couldn't wait to see what Jett would be like. She hit the stage & kicked ass with the first tune which was probably "Bad Reputation". I was going nuts during the opening song & I was now a fan...& then it happened...the song ended &..."Boooooooooo!!!!!". She shook it off & then she surprised the hell out of me by playing my favorite Stones tune "Star Star". Wow this was incredible & I kept standing & cheering along with my 2 other friends. The problem was the crowd continued booing her & started throwing stuff at us for cheering. She tried getting the crowd to sing along on Do You Want to Touch Me but the crowd kept chanting "F-You!" instead & she laughed & left the stage. I've been a huge fan since & l say under the phrase Rock & Roll you need her picture along with Chuck Berry, Johnny Thunders, & Keith Richards. Quoting a song title of Ian Hunter..."That Girl is Rock & Roll"

She's still jammin' fifty two.
And I won't deny that she had some good songs; I prefer The Runaways.

I like Joan Jett, but her last few albums have been less than great though, last video I saw though was that Replacements cover.... which was just bland and generic stuff.

She will always be best in The Runaways and on the first couple solo albums.

But I still love Joan,I think she is great.

She has some good songs, she has some bad songs. But she is undeniably awesome and has one of the catchiest dang songs ever. Ever.

I think she was very influential as far as paving the way for females in punk rock. Her style and the fact that she made it big off of raw rock music appeals to me.
