Canadian punk
Anyone into the Viletones, Demics, Pointed Sticks the late 1970's stuff from up north. Viletones-Screamin fist, Backdoor to hell. Demics-New York City, Oh Well. Pointed Sticks-Somebodies Mom, Marching Song. Also Forgotten Rebels, Diodes, D.N.A. Canada had a great punk scene in the late 70's.

Dead or alive are good too
nomeansno is where it's at for me.
Modernettes, good call
Love the song Barbara. The way punk should sound.
I came here to mention Nomeansno, definitely one of the best Canadian bands for me. They've just been announced to play at the Godspeed-curated ATP in December, anyone who's not heard them should sort that out immediately.
who else? I used to like DOA, one of the better canadian hardcore bands. |

quite enjoy the humour of the Day-Glo Abortions as well (just don't ever google image search them while eating). |
I can only imagine them being a bitchin' live band, I'm very excited about seein them!
if you're interested in something not from 30+ years ago
Propagandhi are my favorite group of canucks
D.O.A. and the Neos were the two best canadian bands.
In more recent times I have enjoyed D.F.A. from Saskatchewan. |
Canada
There were, and still are, tons of great bands from Canada. Though they are overshadowed by their UK namesake, the Subhumans did play some great punk. Another band that's missed mention, so far, is Teenage Head. The Nils were pretty good, too.
F*cked Up, Comeback Kid, Propagandhi, Career Suicide, Cursed, Brutal Knights, we've got a good number of bands.
I am digging Cancer Bats right now, definitely a great Canadian band.
yeah, forgot about them. Alexisonfire is my favorite Canadian band... they're not usually brought up in punk discussions but I think of them as a punk band
I was going to say alexisonfire too but a lot of people don't consider them punk. their pre-Crisis albums most certainly were though methinks
agreed... those albums were both pretty raw... their newest EP has two really straightforward punk songs on it too
Asexuals is a good Canadian punk group. One of the first punk bands I ever heard.
My uncle was into punk in the 70s and tells numerous random band names Ive never heard of. one of them was the Demics who are pretty sweet.
DOA and Alexis are pretty sweet too |
The only two that I like are Chuck's Nation and Propagandhi
I interviewed 2 pioneers of Canadian punk on March 2nd...just posted part 1 on my Punk Retrospective blog today. Dave Rave started the Shakers, played on most of the Teenage Head albums and even replaced Frankie Venom for a while as singer. Cups von Helm was the drummer for the American Devices through the 80's...check out what they had to say about the beginnings of punk...
Burning Love, Vatican Chainsaw Massacre, Cursed, all pretty realted together but awesome. I also really loved DFA 1979 growing up and still do if you consider them punk.
Aww yeah, Vatican Chainsaw Massacre are tight too.
Wednesday Night Heroes, The Dreadnoughts, Colin Decker Free Fall, The Ripcordz
ya D.O.A is my best band.

a few of those:
and the newest band out of those, Vancouver's The Jolts. Who put on a great performance as well, high energy punk rock n roll... Always a blast to see them, currently trying to set up a show here with them through a friend of mine... hoping it comes to be. |
oh, and this one as well from The Jolts, featuring ex-Black Flag vocalist Ron Reyes doing guest vocals on this one, great cover of The Stooges:
I love these guys. This video was shot at Ron's 50th B'day Party @ The Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver. |
Everyone Everywhere anyone? Very pop punk, but fun to listen to. (Admittedly not anywhere near as good as their American emo band namesharers)
Billy talent? really my favorite canadian band
I always liked that they took their name from the sell out in Hard Core Logo.
movie adaptation of the book by Micheal Turner. |
