The Punk Music Recommendation Thread
. . All your requests for Punk recommendations go here. |
I am not much of a punk guy, but I do like The Misfits and The Ramones. Anyone have anything?
|
Screeching Weasel, Teenage Bottlerocket and The Lillingtons are all comparable to Ramones.

It's kind of a stretch but you might also like Dag Nasty and Reagan Youth.
|
Thanks mates. I'll be giving these bands a listen.
|
I've got to squeeze The Ergs! in there.
|
Stiff Little Fingers, imo
|
Forgotten Rebels
Simply Saucer Millencollin Lagwagon Distillers |

Ignore most of these terrible bands being listed & just listen to Poison Idea.

The United Nations panel on Punk estimates that Skinheads are responsible for 50% of all quality punk. |

I agree with Urban wholeheartedly. Poison Idea are almost the perfect epitome of a punk band. I'm quite partial to Aus Rotten too.
|
Poison Idea may be a great band, but I don't think the original request will be served by shutting everything else out. He only likes two punk bands... he needs all the recommendations he can get.

Oh come off it. You're only a couple years ahead of me. You're just used to having kids, you poor bastard. Nice list though. :D |

Preposterous. |
I like Nausea. They're a little more metallic than some punks might like, but the whole crusty sqautter thang was pretty rad. The guy/chick screaming is pretty cool, too.

bad brains.....
anyone recommend any punk bands on the same vibe as bad brains?
also, any good live albums by bad brains cheers |
Bad Brains have four or five live albums, I'd say either get Live At CBGB's 1982 or Live from their 1988 tour.
For similar bands: Adolescents: S/T Scream: Still Screaming Zero Boys - Viscous Circle are a few to check out, that is if you aren't already farmilar with all the mor epopular ones like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and Minor Threat. |

Sorry to get back at you guys so late. Thanks for all the bands you recommended, but out all of them I have to say I liked Poison Idea the most. They have that kick ass heavy sound, thanks Urban for the recommendation.

Have you heard the Neon Boys? They're like proto-Television. Television when it was just Hell, Verlaine and Ficca before Lloyd got added and Fred Smith replaced Hell. They only put out about three songs - if you want to hear pm me an email address to send the EP to. I also have the "Yonkers Demos" which the Heartbreakers cut while Hell was in the band. |
You want punk?
Sex Pistols. 'nuff said. |
Dead Kennedys "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables"

The Transplants espically the song Romper Stomper and anything by the F-Ups

Jim Carroll-"Catholic Boy". Don't let anybody tell you it's not punk, either.
|
Les thugs 1983-1999.
Probably one of the best punk rock band ever. |
The Ruts were the greatest punk band of all time. Not many bands have produced an album without a single dud track. That album is "The Crack". Worth buying for "Babylon's Burning" alone. "Grin & Bear it" is also worth checking out, if only for the original version of "Staring at the Rudeboys". Their dabbling in reggae might put some people off, but this was a band that took it's music and it's politics seriously, unlike the Pistols.
I'd also highly recommend the Dead Kennedy's "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables". Their later stuff is best left unlistened to. |
