The Pogues are punk the way Elvis Costello was punk - not sounding exactly the way we think punk should sound, but in the same spirit. Besides Shane McGowan was in a punk band before, the Pogues were part of the post-punk era anyways with PiL & Joy Division & the trad. Irish music they play is performed from the perspective of a punk band.

Dare I say that i'm not their biggest fan. I have a BEST OF and that will do me . It's riotous fun, just not my sort of riotous fun.

What would you consider a legitimate source? Just asking. Besides 'I use my ear's', which I do as well, but for the purpose of online arguement's.

Yeah I still use my ears for online arguments. See unlike some people I know how to argue without jumping around and switching up points so I don't need to rely on wikipedia and allmusic.

If you have to use someone else's validation to make your points then is there any point in arguing them in the first place?

Is there any point arguing if you're just going to state what you think hear? There's really no point arguing genre's at all really.
