Jewish Punk?
So a friend and I started talking about the diversity of punk. Subjects of goth, emo, hardcore, pop, and etc came up. Then we talked about different subject matter within those genres and came to this realization: Punk is moderately diverse. Queercore focusing on LGBTQ issues, hardcore on politics, nazis being into hardcore etc. Jokingly, my friend said that there's a subgenre of punk for everyone except Jewish people. So, Musicbanter.com, I came to ask if this is true. Are the bands or scenes of punk that incorporate Jewish themes/concerns? Perhaps called Jewcore?
I'm sure this seems silly and I'm sure someone reading this thinks I'm either a jew or a neonazi looking for bands to hate on and shoot up in a concert. But that's not so. I'm genuinely curious. |
Yeah! Jewcore is my favorite genre, after buddhist triphop of course.

There is one jewish punk band called Yidcore that I know of and Agent Orange had some jewish members.

It's a stretch, but you could make an argument for the Beastie Boys pre-hiphop days. They certainly weren't political, or anything.

I believe there is a Jewish punk cover band who change the songs to Jewish themes. I can't recall the name or who they cover at the moment though.
