Fenixpunk 02-09-2005 01:02 PM

It is but that was Just Iggy Pop not iggy and stooges

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-09-2005 03:39 PM

Metallic KO is pure comedy

Fenixpunk 02-21-2005 10:56 AM

anybody seen the movie "Coffee and Cigarettes"? Its a bunch of short stories, Its got a scene with Iggy and Tom Waitts talking about how they quit smoking, but since they quit, they can smoke because they "quit" ah, nevermind, its a funny flick, check it out.

swim 07-06-2006 12:54 PM

Raw Power is pure classic. They're awesome. One of my favorites at the moment.

Trauma 07-06-2006 07:24 PM

That Cigarettes and Coffee movie was good as hell.

right-track 11-30-2006 05:01 PM

Kerbump!

The Passenger has always been my favourite Iggy tune.
Obvious choice, but it never fails to hit the mark.

I know Bowie helped produce 'Lust For Life'.
Anyone know for sure if that's Bowie doing the la la la's in 'The Passenger'?

Edit: joining in that is.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-30-2006 05:08 PM

Pretty sure.

They were both recorded in the same studio working on each others albums in Berlin , Bowie on Low & Heroes , Iggy on Lust For Life & The Idiot.

Bowie played keybords in Iggys backing band for the tour too.
I have a CD of one of the gigs somewhere.

right-track 11-30-2006 05:12 PM

It sure sounds like him...never realised before.

The cd sounds interesting. *hint*

What a combination. That must have been some recording session.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-30-2006 05:17 PM

The biggest shame is that for Iggy`s 'Solider' album in 1980 he was due to have Bowie producing and have Steve Jones & Paul Cook from the Pistols in his backing band.
But Bowie & Iggy had a huge fight before they started & they didn`t speak for something like 15 years , and the album ended up being one of the worst he ever recorded.

right-track 11-30-2006 05:21 PM

Bowie definitely had a massive, positive effect on Iggy.
I'd even guess that without his help at that time (not 1980, but earlier) his career could well have crashed.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-30-2006 05:33 PM

Yeah thats true , It was Bowie that got the Stooges back together for their Raw Power album too.
He was really in the sh*t in the 80s

May I present one of the worst albums I have ever had the misfortune of listening to.....

infantcidelust 12-16-2006 03:22 PM

I would say, I wanna be your dog. Even though the rifts are so easy, it's fun to play and sing along to. It's been one of my favorite songs, and their best album is defiantly Fun House. Gah, I can jam to that album and it never gets tiring.

Sneer 12-19-2006 01:25 PM

my favourites are I Need Somebody, Ann, Dirt, We Will Fall, TV Eye and I wanna Be Your Dog. Best Album is the debut for me. Absolutely immense band. I've always preferred Iggy with the stooges over his solo work

Merkaba 12-19-2006 02:08 PM

I've only got Raw Power, I really liked Search and Destroy which was the first song I got, I thought hello, this is not bad at all. When I got the rest of the album I played it through and it was pretty good too, S&D was still my favourite though. Admittedly, since then, I didn't fancy the album so much that I've listened to it regularly, maybe once or twice.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-19-2006 02:12 PM

You can now get a 7 cd set of all the Funhouse sessions

SEVEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:yikes:

littleknowitall 12-20-2006 05:02 AM

Search and destroy....i'll be miserable if i never get round to covering that.

almauro 01-05-2007 09:42 AM

Anything off of FUN HOUSE, except LA Blues. Iggy has never been better before or after the Stooges 2nd album. The debut doesn't swagger, and Raw Power is too tame. TV Eye, Dirt, Fun House etc.

Party Guy

Sparky 01-06-2007 05:59 PM

search and destroy
wanna be you dog
1969
the passenger

ganjaguitarist 01-07-2007 12:12 PM

iggy pop is the best musician of all time! hands down!

Kurt_Cobain 01-07-2007 12:32 PM

Oh, loves Iggy, I bought A Million Prizes: The Anthology first, it was in sale and I wanted to hear Iggy. Fell in love with how he can change his voice, that deep smooth sound to that rough, edgy thing goin on. Fave song has to be 'Real Wild Child (Wild One), then stuff like 'Passanger,' 'Some weird sin'. The cover of 'Louie Louie' is like a thousand times better than the orginal.

Moon Pix 01-26-2007 12:40 PM

Raw Power is my favourite. The violence and aggression in James Williamson's playing is incredibly intense. I really dont like the first two albums at all personally though.

Ghostbuster3000 01-27-2007 04:05 PM

1970, great song! also like 'penetration' of the raw power album too. Fave is probably 1970, "I FEEL ALRIGHT"...

Sparky 03-21-2007 04:59 PM

anyone got "the weirdness" yet?
im downloading it right now, wanted some mb opinions on it.

littleknowitall 03-21-2007 05:02 PM

this, im ashamed to say isn't a thread i started *is gutted*

cardboard adolescent 03-21-2007 05:06 PM

Havent heard too much of The Weirdness, but what I did hear was pretty bad and most of the reviews Ive read of it bash the crap out of it.

White Lies 03-21-2007 07:22 PM

I haven't heard it, but apparently Pitchfork Media gave it 1/10.

GravitySlips 01-06-2009 02:33 PM

I feel the need to bump, perhaps this deserves its own thread but...

Ron Asheton was found dead today.
I think this is a tragic loss for music, he remains to this day one of my favourite guitarists. R.I.P.

Mojo 01-06-2009 05:25 PM

Its a thread about The Stooges, im fairly sure its fine here. That is real bad news, I had not heard about this.

Oh and in response to the original question in the first post - anything off Fun House. Such an absolutely amazing and for me, near perfect album.

almauro 01-08-2009 10:47 AM

Iggy never released another record as good as Fun House.

Sneer 01-08-2009 10:51 AM

The Idiot isnt far off

Shihad 01-14-2009 11:18 PM

RIP Ron Asheton

Great band.

NikkiRuby 01-19-2009 11:50 AM

at the moment my favorite iggy and the stooges song is "I'm sick of you".

RIP Ron Asheton.

sandytherabbit 01-19-2009 02:27 PM

i live in detroit, and let me tell you, we just adore iggy and the stooges here. iggy is an icon. and the loss of ron ashton. nicest guy ever by the way..
:)
was like a kick in the guts.
they had a tribute show here saturday night at the music hall. like an old detroit music family reunion. someone told me this great story about how they were rehearsing and stopped for a bit. they heard something at the door.
ron went and opened it and mick jagger fell on his face in front of him.
he was looking in the key hole..lol
i guess mick hated the stooges.

lol
