^I wouldn't call Sonic Youth post-punk.
But mine would be a toss-up between Joy Division, The Fall, Wire and Gang Of Four.

My favorite band is Mission of Burma

They were the first post-punk i listened to and got into them by my friend from high school who moved to boston and came back with all this cool music bands from boston i never heard of

I have all their albums and know each by heart

Enough about me, what about you guys?

yeah. Joy Division or The Cure. I never hear the cure being called post-punk but they kinda are. Then there's the Fall. Great songs, even if 1/2 of them are plagiarism jobs, but that voice is just horrible. P.I.L's metal box is cool too.

They fall into that time line and have a similar sound...

^Now that I think about it I guess so but they are more Experimental.
On another note has anyone else noticed how consistent Post-Punk is as a genre every other one has half of the bands terrible but there are only a few bad Post-Punk artists.

jacklovezhimself 04-17-2010 09:52 PM

I bet there are a whole lot of bad ones that we just don't know about.

James 04-18-2010 04:08 AM

But even so it's not being shoved down our throats like other genres.

jacklovezhimself 04-18-2010 09:07 AM

true

b.s. what genre shoves bands down our throat?

and there aren't any "bad" post-punk bands because the only bands that people really know of the genre are joy division, new order, the smiths, the cure, wire, swans, gang of four, and a few other misc. ones. it was a niche genre back in the day and is especially niche now. i love it, think it is awesome, but only a few really stand out bands came out of it.

jacklovezhimself 04-19-2010 07:26 PM

I think there are a lot more than you think, not to mention the numerous bands that have been influenced by the post-punk movement. I think it can be considered one of the most original and influential genres of all time.

punk, rock and metal all have bad bands that are popular but with post-punk all the big bands are awesome sure there are probably bad artists but not well known ones. So post-punk is being represented well to most people.
