^I wouldn't call Sonic Youth post-punk.
But mine would be a toss-up between Joy Division, The Fall, Wire and Gang Of Four. |

They fall into that time line and have a similar sound... |
^Now that I think about it I guess so but they are more Experimental.
On another note has anyone else noticed how consistent Post-Punk is as a genre every other one has half of the bands terrible but there are only a few bad Post-Punk artists. |
I bet there are a whole lot of bad ones that we just don't know about.
|
But even so it's not being shoved down our throats like other genres.

true

b.s. what genre shoves bands down our throat?
and there aren't any "bad" post-punk bands because the only bands that people really know of the genre are joy division, new order, the smiths, the cure, wire, swans, gang of four, and a few other misc. ones. it was a niche genre back in the day and is especially niche now. i love it, think it is awesome, but only a few really stand out bands came out of it. |
I think there are a lot more than you think, not to mention the numerous bands that have been influenced by the post-punk movement. I think it can be considered one of the most original and influential genres of all time.
