For my money it's Joy Division, but special props goes to Gang of Four.
I also agree with Daga and Paloma, every genre has good and bad and there's certainly post punk bands that don't float my boat. The Fall and Echo & The Bunnymen mainly. And I pretty much detest post punk revivalism in general. Post punk? |

Savage Republic, The Fall, Joy Division...so many great bands.
And I can't stress enough how much I love Savage Republic. I have four albums - I think that's all of them? I especially like that dusty, desert quality of their sound. |

everyone who likes post punk needs to check out The Gordons ... excellent, fairly chaotic band from New Zealand in the early 80s. Here's two songs of theirs...
