The Pixies vs Nirvana

Pixies. And it's not even close.

Nirvana basically took the Pixie's template and sucked out the interesting bits - the humour, the oddness and the androgyny. I'd much rather be listening to a demented Black Francis yell about incest, deformity, horse lard, the old testament, alien abduction etc and use the odd bit of mutant Spanish, than hear Kurt throwing undignified, attention seeking temper tantrums (RAPE ME! I HATE MYSELF AND WANT TO DIE!!)

And musically, Nirvana just sound too plain, and a decent drummer ain't enough to save 'em. There's none of the violence and the hooligan art, or gleeful surf melodies and wacky spaghetti western noise you can hear from a Pixies record.
