Yeah I knew what you were gettin' at from the get go. I was just feelin' feisty.

I don't really know why the Pixies are winning. Their material is great but the last few albums really started slipping (still love them though).

Nirvana had 3 great albums (4 if you count Unplugged). The only one that wasn't quite at the brilliant meter was Bleach.

I do include Unplugged; it's a favorite of mine. Personally think that Bleach was the best album they ever produced. Definitely better than anything that smells like Team Geffen. The Pixies, although they weren't quite as prolific given the length of their career, just had a much more original sound than Nirvana.

I used to agree with that - but on taking a closer listen I realized how important Grohl's drumming was.

Grohl's amazing. He definitely factored into theband's trademark "soft verse>explosive chorus" formula, but for his own merit Chad Canning had quite a few redeeming qualities as a drummer and a very original style.

I agree he was a good drummer. And don't get me wrong I love that album - it's just for me it seems likes it's the darker, less focussed side of Kurt Cobain's mind. Like it's got a powerful message but has trouble finding the words. To me Nirvana were truly that, Nirvana, when they recorded In Utero. Sure everybody says it's their favorite but it's the most concentrated, focessed and haunting album of the catelog.

As a drummer myself, i find his playing pretty cool. He expresses the mood of the song perfect like in Smells like Teen Spirit. He evokes a headbanging mood in the beginning then he makes a soft, mellow sound.

Uhh, haven't listened to much Pixies.

Anyone wanna recommend me something?

Uhm... Doolittle for sure! Doolittle is arguably their best album which got me hooked to them.

I agree with all of that. For me, I first heard Nirvana shortly after Bleach came out. Managed to see em' live once as a four piece w/ Jason Everman still with them. When Nevermind came out, and on Geffen no less, the general reaction was "What the fuck is this bulllllllllshit?" Nevermind, in a way really symbolized the final nail in the coffin that mass media had built for "independent" music. Nothing was sacred anymore. Nirvana was being sold as if they were a panacea elixir. It was Blatant and disturbing. That's probably why I have such a high esteem of Bleach as an album, because it preceded what I saw as , and many others did as well, a very marked line of demarcation in the history of modern music.
