Maybe not but put it this way, they're more punk rock than Rancid and Green Day.

Urban if I stare at your avatar for a minute and then close my eyes I can see an image of Jesus. Or maybe just a blur of light.

If we really want to get pissy with this genre debate, there is a strong case for classifying Pixies as post-punk, especially their first three albums. And totally agree with Nirvana being more punk than Green Day, in many ways they actually epitomised the punk ethos.
