Given that you created the thread and put it in this section, you`ve got to try and justify that decision I suppose.:p:

I think Pixies win here, because if we are going to determine the most influental alternative rock band, it can't be Nirvana in any way... (I'd rather go with Husker Du, the Smiths or the Fall.) Pixies' music is more varied, as is Sonic Youth's.

Nirvana it is.. Nirvana it has to be... Nirvana it will be!!

i have already come to the conclusion that both are about the same

it's just one is overrated while the other is underrated

I wouldn't go that far...

Well the Pixies were certainly more original and unique, but Nirvana were still the better band.

but the Pixies are often downplayed in terms of influence and musical ingenuity and Nirvana was like the band that SAVED THE WORLD from that crap called "hair metal"

Nirvana certainly did save us from hair metal, but also sadly took the popularity away from thrash as well.

Without the Pixies there probably would`ve never been Nirvana so they were certainly grounbreaking. As far as I`m concerned, Nirvana are one of the most hyped bands in the history of music.....but they are fully worthy of this hype. Without doubt one of the best ten bands in the history of rock.

which is fine, if hair metal was really that bad but i find most of the hm power ballads very engaging, tbh

and Nirvana pretty much killed off that style of balladeering, so now we get emo-ballads like Hoobastank's The Reason

I think it was that bad and I was kind of glad when power ballads died their death as well. I`ve listened to like a zillion hair metal bands over the years and the only band that sounded remotely interesting were Hanoi Rocks. Even related sounding bands such as Extreme were preferible to hair metal bands........ and thats not saying too much either.
