Totally agree with this.

By the way, botchla, seven posts in seven years? That's got to be some kind of record!

Wow! Now I have to look through his post history to see if he makes one every year.

Just listened to the pixies. First impression: Wolf Parade meets Billy Talent. Meh. Still probably gets my vote over Nirvana just for all the times I've been made to listen to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the bus all the way through school...

Your impression is that they sound like a combination of two bands they no doubt influenced?

Did you just compare Pixies to two bands that formed AFTER they did...(I like Wolf Parade better than the Pixies though)

Not just after the Pixies formed even, after they broke up!

Why can't I compare them to two bands that formed after them?

You can compare them. That's what this thread is about after all, comparing the Pixies to a band they influenced.

It just seems odd to describe them by saying they sound like two of the many bands they presumably influenced. Seems kind of backwards.

Probably is backwards. But that's kind of my style.

To me, this is a brand-new-used car. Maybe it's more fair to say that when I listened to some of this bands for the first time (like an hour ago), what jumped out at me was the parts that would have influenced Wolf Parade and Billy Talent. For someone else who'd never heard the band, it might be a useful description.

It may be worth while to give em more time. Try listening to Doolittle its one of the more accessible albums.
