i got to see him do a poetry reading in Redondo Beach, CA once and it was pretty great.

He whose most well-known song was "People Who Died" has died. Poet, singer/songwriter, spokesman for a generation, Jim Carroll passed away in his home while working (writing). A heart attack took him from us on Friday, September 11, 2009. He was 60 years old.

Damn. :(

I got to see him do some spoken word once as well, in Boston shortly after Basketball Diaries came out. He was great and surprisingly very funny.

Edit: Man, Stiv Bators looks like shit in that photo.

Wow,
I had no idea he passed. The trippy part is that for some reason I had burned a copy of "Catholic Boy" for a co-worker on September 9th--or somewhere in that ballpark. Strange timing. Somebody needs to cover "People who died" and ammend it to include Carroll. Perhaps I'll work on that--maybe I'll throw a recording up on MB.

Then it's settled:

I'll start working on it this weekend when I can put off doing homework until Sunday.

My vocals won't do it justice, but I think it'll be very fun and very appropriate.
