Lagwagon

Is there seriously no thread on Lagwagon? If you've visited my Last.fm page you'll see that they are my most played artist.

I've liked Lagwagon ever since my phase where pretty much all I listened to was pop punk, and to this day I still rate them extremely high as a band. Unlike many of the bands that are often compared to them, Lagwagon does not make ****ty, juvenile musc (NOFX I'm looking at you) nor do they try to be political and edgy (*ahem* Pennywise). Also: "Let's Talk About Feelings" is an album I'd consider to be a masterpiece.

Check them out, don't let their "pop punk" tag put you off.

Me likey Lagwagon, one of my favorite pop/skate punk bands since the mid 90s.

I think they are well known within that circle but grossly overlooked and underrated otherwise. Double Plaidinum and Hoss are my favorites, Let's Talk About Feelings would be next. I think it would be easy for anyone only familiar with Blink 182, Sum 41 and the like (and not a fan) to blow them off as the same, and those familiar with the better and more original pop/skate punk bands are probably already aware of them. So in other words, it's hard to turn people into fans unless they're already into the genre. Or something.

And what about Bad Astronaut? Lagwagon grown up. Love them.

I still need to get me some Bad Astronaut.

Let me know if you want links, I have all 3 CDs.

I was just watching those Lagwagon vids and remembered that I saw them in 99, very fun show, on a much smaller stage than that.

I'm a fan. They have an interesting sound, which is one criteria I look for in a band. They're not overly comedic, and have the ability to seamlessly jump from lighthearted to serious subject matter. They're definitely quality.

I grew up musically with these guys along with NoFX, Pennywise, Guttermouth and such bands.

Top five favorite songs in no particular order would have to be:

Falling Apart
Sick
Give It Back (great bassline)
Sleep
Making Friends

For me it goes like:

Billy Club
Violins
I Must Be Hateful
Heartbreaking Music
Train

But really, they have an IMMENSE amount of quality songs and this list could change any time.

I used to love these guys in high school. I still do like them. Just never listen to them anymore.

Hoss
Double Plaidinum

LOVE Joey Cape's voice. Sleep is my fav track...

Great, great band one of the best on Fat Wreck

I am starting with Trashed because it was AMG's highest rated album. I like it so far...

Alfred 03-12-2010 09:35 PM

Surprisingly I haven't listened to Trashed (or Duh for that matter) based solely on the time it was released. I like the more mature, restrained Lagwagon.

Whatever, it will happen at some point.

Violent & Funky 03-13-2010 01:44 AM

"Restrained" doesn't seem like the description I was looking for when I started listening to Lagwagon...

sidewinder 03-15-2010 12:40 PM

Yeah where exactly does restrained fit in? Lol. I do prefer the mid-period Lagwagon, but wouldn't really call any of their stuff restrained. A few slower numbers on the last two albums, perhaps.

Bad Astronaut is restrained at times. I wish they hadn't split. :(

I will have to mirror most of this sentiment, and squeeze Stokin' The Neighbors in there. (nostalgic reasons)
I don't remember "Sleep", so take that out and put in Choke.

Trashed is my favorite... probably because it's the first one I heard back then. After listening to Trashed, I didn't like Hoss as much as I probably would have otherwise. But when Double Plaidinum came out, I loved that one but had a huge problem with the mastering job. (Waayy too high-end-ish) Some quality tracks on that one though.

Surprisingly, I haven't heard anything newer than Double Plaidinum.
