Default Revolution Girl Style Now!

So do anyone here like girl punk?

As the male-chauvinist pig I am, I can't help thinking that feminist punk and the riot grrrl movement is often just slightly comical, but I think a lot of the girls would agree with me anyways, so I don't worry about it. Just check out The Raincoats rather drab (but not entirely uncharming) cover of the Kinks classic "Lola" for example or how Free Kitten manages to catch the essence of a really bad hangover on the vocal tracks when singing Teenie Weenie Boppie. Bratmobile's over the top one-string-at-a-time strumming with amateurish drums and random screaming vocals on songs like "panik" and their cover of "Cherry Bomb" is interesting to say the least ..

.. But you have to give it to the girls. They have attitude - and that's what punk is all about (or used to be, at least), right?

So what's your favourite girl pink song / band / album?

My favourite girl punk band is The Slits who got a little attention with their debut album "Cut" (1979) from which "typical girls" is the most well-known song. I like it, but I find it a bit hard to explain exactly why, although Ari Up's vocals definetly play into it ..

(There's also a picture of them naked and caked with mud in the little CD booklet. I mean - although there are much better lookers out there, it doesn't really hurt.)

Sleater-Kinney, the Slits, X-Ray Spex and Siouxie and the Banshees are my personal favourites. I can't claim to be a massive fan of the movement, but credit to them for showing the attitude (which, yes, is to me what punk should really be all about)

The Distillers aren't all-girl, but just as good.
