I really know nothing about them, but have you heard The Real Mckenzies? They're usually where people go next.

If you like those two bands you'd probably dig The Swingin' Utters. And probably Social Distortion and Rocket From the Crypt.

Yeah, that's a good one.

Also, the Stiff Little Fingers are pretty good. They're Irish, which I suppose is close enough to Scottish.

someonecompletelyrandom 11-26-2008 02:34 PM

Well... my favorite punk groups are the pretty obivous ones. Bad Brains, Sex Pistols.. etc. A little of Nirvana's later stuff (think Incesticide and In Utero) could be classified punk.

Sister Ray 11-29-2008 11:47 PM

Punk? Punk? You want punk? Try Fun House... Iggy & the Stooges...

then check out Velvet Underground

Bulldog 11-30-2008 08:17 AM

Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers - LAMF
New York Dolls - S/T
Buzzc.ocks - Another Music In a Different Kitchen
The Ruts - The Crack
Iggy & the Stooges - Raw Power

Those are five of the albums that got me started on punk, so they're a pretty safe bet for ya :)

beans! 12-09-2008 04:24 PM

Yes because a fan of Flogging Molly & Dropkick Murphy's wanting similar bands is really going to want to listen to 20 minute dronefests & out of tune viola playing.

PaperHurricanesAndPlanes 12-19-2008 11:14 AM

These are unrelated to Irish/Scottish punk. Just good punk.

The Germs
Bad Religion
Dead Kennedys
DOA
The Clash
The Adolescents

Incesticide is actually a collection of pre-Nevermind Nirvana material, in otherwords, their earlier stuff.

And as far as this thread goes, I like punk, but I hate Flogging Molly and Dropkicks, so all of my reccomendations are pointless:)

Surell 12-25-2008 01:41 PM

My recommendations would just be Minutemen, Misfits, and Husker Du. Standard stuff, in my opinion. Offspring's good if you don't mind not getting the whole underground Punk ****, cuz they're fun and easy to listen to.

No-Coast Hardcore

Biteit 06-17-2009 01:03 AM

OHHH yeah
Dont forget Gang Green

Bane of your existence 06-17-2009 01:46 AM

You'd probably like The Lawrence Arms, Screeching Weasel, The Latterman, Small Brown Bike, Buzzcocks, The Queers, and Teenage Bottlerocket.

Rabid 06-18-2009 10:41 AM

I misunderstood or rather, i was confused with the whole "genre" thing. To me punk is punk. So the thread has listed many good punk bands of recent perhaps try some old punk too like:
Eater
Alien Sex Fiend (The earlier albums)
Wire (Pink Flag)
Slaughter and The Dogs
The Cramps
American Hardcore Comp (for starters)
Old Thraher magazine skaterock comps (also for starters)
and I have faith that you can fill in your own blanks after that. Yowsa...

Rocknroll_Animal 06-09-2010 06:32 AM

For Irish, the Pogues. For English, The Clash / Sex Pistols / Nipple Erectors. For American, Voidoids / Stooges / Cramps / Gun Club.

SBWNik 06-11-2010 06:31 AM

If we're talking 'Irish punk bands that have feck all to do with ireland (Pogues, Molly, Murphies etc) then include The Skels.
If you mean Irish as in 'actually from Ireland' then only two bands - Stiff Little Fingers and The Undertones, though The Undertones lost the plot pretty quickly.

If you're looking for good punk, then I'd say that 90% of whats mentioned on this thread - ignore Velvet Underground, you'll not like them - would be good advice.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-11-2010 06:38 AM

I don't have a problem with every single thread in the punk forum being bumped but the thread starter hasn't been back in 2 years.

Use a little common sense bumping this stuff.
