They're from BC, according to their Myspace page. I don't listen to that band. :P

That's like the only Canadian punk band I can think of other than NoMeansNo and Dayglo Abortions. What is there from Toronto?

Fucked Up, The Flatliners, Cursed, Career Suicide, Cancer Bats, Brutal Knights, others I'm forgetting, but it's not even just about the bands. Toronto as a city has a really great vibe to it and a healthy amount of venues such as Sneaky Dee's, Bovine Sex Club, the Horseshoe Tavern, Lee's Palace, The Opera House, etc.

Has anybody mentioned Detroit? Certainly the best City for protorock with MC5, The Stooges and Death all hailing from that neck of the woods. If we're being genre Nazis then London. Not for patriotic reasons, it just produced the greatest number of good punk bands. I do love the LA scene though.
You forgot the wonderful Negative Approach. Anyways, by Death are you referring to the metal band, or...? Because the metal band's key member (Schuldiner) moved to California, and that's where the band made it's splash.

He's probably referring to the protopunk band that didn't manage to release their debut album, Death... for the Whole World to See, until 2009.

That's a great band. Also Necros (another great band) are from Detroit I think.

Saw Negative Approach over the summer around here. Was a great show. Great band that was pretty damn influential on powerviolence/fastcore/thrashcore.

BBC News - How France gave punk rock its meaning

Admittedly something I do not know a huge amount about but interesting reading.

Necros and Neg Approach were two of the very first bands on Touch & Go, I think. I think I once read that it was one of the guys in the Necros who started the label in the first place. Whatever's true, these two bands are definitely two of the better early 80s hardcore acts, especially Negative Approach.

The Meatmen were around too, anyone heard them? Funny band.
