Default The Saints

We all know that their first 3 albums with Ed Kuepper playing guitar are punk classics - '(I'm) Stranded', 'Eternally Yours' and 'Prehistoric Sounds' in case anyone doesn't already know - but what I'm wondering is if anyone thinks any of the albums that came after Kuepper left are at all worth hearing? I love Chris Bailey's voice, but I've heard they went for a much softer musical direction after their third album which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Or is it?

I am a child of The Saints. They are one of the most influential bands in my life. I think I got to see The Saints classic line up in 76 but do not ask me to recall it as I was regretfully very young and off the planet at the time. I only know this because a mate told me and I have to believe him. I did get to see a reunion of the Bailey/Kuepper line up last year in Brisbane and I have read that they are also reforming again for a couple of gigs in Sydney and Melbourne at the summer festivals.

For me there is only one line up and that is Bailey/Kuepper with Ivor Hay on drums. I have not bothered with the latter work after Prehistoric Sounds. I have though dabbled extensively in the work of Ed Kuepper. From his Laughing Clowns work to last years Jean Lee And The Yellow Dog. I have also got to see him perform often. Living in the same city helps. I normally have no issue with bands using the same name after an important member has left but this one is I guess personal. If Chris Bailey had called the subsequent band/albums something else I would have listened to them. They are no doubt very good but just not for me to dabble in.

I know what you mean there. They should at least be called Chris Bailey & the Saints or something like that by now. As for their later stuff I'm just plain old curious really - might have to have a look around for some of it

Uber-bump.

Any more Saints fans out there (there must be more than two around here)? While we're at it, is there anyone who likes any of their material after Ed Kuepper left? I only ask 'cos I'm listening to Prehistoric Sounds at the moment and mulling over looking for a few of their later albums.

Here are a few videos for those who aren't in the loop;

I just rediscovered "All Fools Day", and unlike the first three discs, this has the big 80's stadium rock sound, and is very well put together in a craft-like sort of way. Bailey's got a wonderfully expressive voice and musically there's a lot of good twists and turns. I recommend it but be warned, it's closer to pop than punk.

Yeah, All Fools Day is the one I've had my eye on. I think I'll give it a go - I can take a little bit of pop every now and then! I love Chris Bailey's voice too.

Cheers for the heads-up.

Fear not! I think I still have it on my mediafire account. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll send it your way.
