The Lawrence Arms
...is it just me, or does this band completely suck?
The Broadways' Broken Star is in my top 5 favorite albums of all time, and Slapstick is pretty great too, but the albums I've heard by these guys (Ghost Stories, Apathy And Exhaustion, and Oh! Calcutta) are really underwhelming and unmemorable. Have I just not given them a fair chance, or what? |

I'm not overly fond of them either. The only song I've heard and somewhat liked (and I've heard alot) is The First Eviction Notice.

I've never been particularly fond of them and they're from my own hometown (Chicago). I'ts just another example of how Fat Mike has been signing crappy bands to his label for the past few years just to turn a buck.

They're the only Jawbreakerish rip-off band I don't like. Sundowner is pretty cool though.

The Greatest Story Ever Told is definitely one of my favorite punk albums. There are so many ****ty "punk" bands nowadays, and TLA is definitely not one of them. The musicianship is solid, the lyrics are great most of the time.
Then again, I'm not surprised some of you don't like them. |

Aight, so this band is completely awesome. I was pretty wrong 3 and a half years ago. Oh! Calcutta and The Greatest Story Ever Told are the only albums I've listened to so far, so I'll have to listen more. I like how they have two singers, one who does the rough vocals (similar to Eric Funk of Dillinger Four) while the other does a cleaner Matt Skiba-esque style.

No you haven't. Why does no one post music? I see debate, but, no music. Here's a good one. |

This is one of my favourite Lawrence Arms songs. It's like they wanted to make the most obnoxious, caricatured distillation of their sound possible, and cram it into a minute and a half. And it's awesome.
