Talkin' bout my generation...

The Prophet 03-16-2009 04:12 PM

So, according to the opening post, Punk is a 3 star genre. Seems a little harsh..I mean, come on, some bands deserve 4, even 5 stars.

;P

someonecompletelyrandom 03-16-2009 04:19 PM

Ha yeah. That joke gets old after the first 3 times it's been told ;)

The Prophet 03-16-2009 04:31 PM

Ofcourse it does, but given the size of the thread, you can hardly expect me to wade through people slamming the OP for its close-mindedness.

Gotta fluff my post count a little bit, by atleast pretending to be on topic :P

someonecompletelyrandom 03-16-2009 04:42 PM

I understand, altough getting into a heated argument with a mod works equally as well.

The Prophet 03-16-2009 04:46 PM

A good point, though I generally tend to avoid heated arguements unless the subject is really important to me.

The internet is not worth wasting my rage on.

:D

Still, the whole Punk is **** mentality is the kind of mindless ranting that gets my goat upset.

Surell 03-16-2009 07:01 PM

It was awhile back. They reopened it for the debate I presume.

Shoe 03-16-2009 07:52 PM

The Prophet, way to be honest that gave me a chuckle.

Everyone else, Punk is not ****. Case closed. (thread too?)

Surell 03-16-2009 08:26 PM

It's not shit. It's gay.

According to the author, anyway, who said his brother typed this up anyway.

i would have to disagree. punk is not dead but true punk seems to be more underground than anything you would find mainstream

So what, I think that people hop on and off the ban wagon with this so much. This punk crap is so stupid it was just music that appealed to younger people because of its rebelious nature, much like grunge. ( Big fan)

I think the folks that say it is dead are the ones who have grown up and moved on with life. Oh and for the record I dont care if you live it dress like it eat it smell it, If your 15 and you say punk is dead?? To me that means that you want to sound cool. I love how it was quoted that punk is ppl who dress in hot topic?? WTF !! Avril Lavigne is anything but punk. So dont get confused.

No punk no thrash no Metallica?? How about Britney Spears would we still have that? Or additudes? BILLLLYY!!! What ever. It would have eventually happened anyhow. I think that punk rock did and is still doing its justice and I think that people need to stop talking about it as if gone. Punk Rock lives on as the inspiration behind some the most talented rock musicians today. Yes
there are some.

Thanks all.

So were the Sex Pistols. Even more-so in fact.

Piss Me Off 03-26-2009 10:09 AM

So are most acts if you want to be really nitpicky about it.

Yukon Cornelius 03-26-2009 11:26 AM

So are alot of bands. And what does starting at the bottom have to do with the actual music? I don't care if the bands I like were put together by someone else as long as they sound good.

Considering they were "manufactured" by Malcolm Mclaren and not an empty suit record exec I don't really mind.

Besides that to say they were "manufactured" in the sense the earlier poster was talking about isn't a very fair comparison..

But yeah, as long as the music sounds good I really don't care.
