Suicide
I'm suprised there is no thread about these two dudes yet...They've influenced a hell of alot of people but, it seems they're not as popular as I thought. I have all of their early work but, I haven't heard any their later albums.
I know them by Ghost Rider, which is a pretty creative track. I might try to get an album of their's soon.
They were big influences on Jesus & Mary Chain (so I've read), who were the fore-runners to distortion-y pop like shoegaze. For that, they're great. But to be honest, their celebrated Ghost Riders album just isn't that great to me. It is listenable, but doesn't wow me.
you can hear their influence all over the early Mary Chain albums. The dark and dangerous vibe and atmosphere. Lovely.
i cant find any of their stuff!!!
ive been tryin to get a hold of some for a while anyone wanna help me out? wink wink nudge nudge pm me |
Suicide are alright.
Wouldn't call them that innovative , Silver Apples were doing pretty much the same sort of thing a decade earlier.I think what Suicide did was come around at the right time when people were looking for the next extreme thing on from punk. |
suicide is good
Speaking of which, I don't think there is a thread about the Silver Apples yet.
Suicide's 1st album is swell, but their second is a little too pop-oriented for my taste. The remainder of their discography is a giant forgettable mess...
get there live recording 23 minutes over brussells! just great loud ****!! feedback, noise, insanity, goodness.
alright but boring at points
I've got their debut, but I haven't listened to it for years. Must get 'round to that at some point
ill buy it off ya
I love their debut album so much. My favorite songs are probably Ghost Rider and Frankie Teardrop. Amazing songs. Ghost Rider is one of the coolest songs ever and Frankie Teardrop scares the hell out of me, but I love it so.
I really love this band. Well, I love their first album anyway I haven't heard anything else yet! Definitely need to get more. |

by the way someone mentioned that suicide were alright but the silver apples were doing it before. this is true. . . but keep in mind that suicide had started in 1971 and didn't release their first album until 1977. so the silver apples were only like three years prior.
but also, they aren't that similar really. |
To me theyre like The Screamers, another band doing a similiar thing that just havent got enough recognition. Really good stuff

Weird fact: I just found out that Alan turned 70 last year. I had no idea he was that old! That means he was almost 40 when their first album came out and nowhere near being the punk kid I thought he was.
alan vega is seriously my idol. just makes me wish i was in new york during that time, or was alive in new york during that era haha
