New Wave and punk are pretty much interchangeable. "New Wave" was just the media friendly word used to desribe punk bands so they would become more recognized, since the term "punk" had been so stigmatized so that it was almost impossible for any 'punk' band to get any sort of mainstream recognition.

It's on a 70's Punk mix thing I got, it's a great track. I didn't realize Punk was goin back to then, but Stooges had I Wanna Be Your Dog in '69 , I think, and there was some Proto Punk stuff too. But yeah, the 60's stuff sounds cool, I need to check it out soon.

My favourite '60s punk song is "My Generation" by the Who. One of the perfect anthems about alienation.
