Only a few mentions of Bad Religion in this thread. To me, they epitomize catchy punk music. Just listened to "The Grey Race" this morning" (an underrated gem by the way), and the song "Drunk Sincerity" has been in my head all day.

Grey Race was probably the best of the major label stuff... but that is not saying much.
Bad Religion lost me after "Against the Grain", though "Generator" was alright. But for the most part I thought Bad Religion got progressively worse and worse. I always wonder if "Into the Unknown" wasn't a total failure in the eyes of many, what they would be like today.

I agree with almost any Misfits songs, especially the repetitive ones (For example, We Are 138 and Attitude). I will also say I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend by the Ramones and/or God Save The Queen by Sex Pistols, in my opinion.

@RMR I 100% agree. Bad Religion has made some of the catchiest punk songs, especially in the eighties. They have a great pop form mentality without pushing it into corny territory for the most part.

@Bob, you are a Twin Peaks reference, yes? I love that show, though I wasn't around when it first aired.
I have heard Into The Unknown, I have listened to their entire discography up until the late 2000's. I felt like they were trying to make an early Pink Floyd type of album while being influenced by 2001 or something. I didn't like it very much, found it to be quite boring. Not everything they have done is super great or catchy, but it doesn't take away the reality that a lot of their songs have infectious beats and melodies. For example, if I was a pop producer, I could take the raw melodies and tempos and use them to make hit singles with a different singer and totally different production. That is what I base my statement on. |
