The Gaslight Anthem - Sink or Swim

Yea, it came out a year ago, but they are one of my favorite bands so I want to make a thread about them.

Sink or Swim is the best punk album since Reinventing Axl Rose. That's really all I have to say. Oh, and they have a new album coming out. It's actually already leaked if your a downloader.

I don't know if I'd call them punk but thats just me. Its what punk is falling back from the Sex Pistols, through the Atari's, toward Social D, Dropkick Murphys, Ted Leo and it comes back to sped up Springsteen.

just my 2 cents.

They're Folk-Punk aren't they? Especially on the 59 sound. I was surprised when I heard them dubbed as Punk as well.

To those of us on the outside of punk looking in, this sounds redundant.

American Slang seems intriguing. Something 'The Boss' would be proud of.

Old thread is old. Regardless, I simply adore the Gaslight Anthem. I heard Great Expectations through a friend who's always introduced me to great music, and I fell in love. Brian Fallon's voice is just so soothing, and there's something so nostalgic about their lyrics, and the sound they create. I especially love their (i.e. Brian Fallon's) covers.. covered 9 Crimes, Last Kiss, Antonia Jane, Atlantic City, etc. I'm really excited to hear their new record, which is slated to come out early 2012.

This is (I believe) the only finished track off the new album:

It shall be so worth it. Has anyone heard of Brian's side venture, the Horrible Crowes? I'm really looking forward to hearing more from them too.

Oh, we have a thread for these guys? Guess who's seen them live?

I like them, really good band. I like the sound they produce, if it were food, I'd say it would be a really expensive, rich smoky cheese.

The '69 Sound is such a good album, I love albums where nearly every song is killer and packed with hooks. Definitely their strongest album. American Slang is good as well but just not as good as The '69 Sound, the songs don't seem as memorable and don't pack the same punch. Sink Or Swim is OK and is their most 'punk' sounding album but the band were only really finding their feet at that stage.

I wouldn't really consider them a punk band as such anymore, they moved away from punk towards rock and roll the same way The Replacements did in the 80's. But like The Replacements they kind of kept that punk spirit deep inside.

I'm looking forward to a new album next year and hopefully it will be a blinder. That Horrible Crowes song sounds pretty good and it has a nice mellower sound to it. I might check out that album.
