When I think of emo bands, I think of bands that tend to sing about the mellow emotions...saddness, despair, and hopelessness. Also, most emo bands seem to dress and act a certain way(The Trio doesn't follow this trend). Alkaline Trio might sing about pretty emotional stuff, but there subject matter covers almost every emotion known to man. They have been classified as punk and alternative, not emo. Another thing to take into account is their "dark" lyrics. Most emo bands don't use lyrics like that. I would say if they were anything they would be more associated with goth than emo. So to answer your question simply...no they are not emo lol. To be quite honest actually, Alk3 is pretty undefinable if you look at how unique each one of their albums really is.

Sadness, despair and hopelessness are 'mellow' emotions?
I stopped reading there. As for the rest of the question, I wouldn't have thought they were emo. Wouldn't have thought they were that good either, but obviously they have their fans who have heard a lot more of their stuff than I have (Odd tracks on compilations is about it, and I tend to skip those once I've heard them TBH) so I bow to their superior knowledge.... |
