post hardcore i'd say.

fugazi are amazing, and they consistantly put out great albums. Brendan Canty is one of my favorite drummers.

I only have "Repeater" and "The Argument" but they are two of my favorite albums. I wouldn't consider them emo though.

I find most people who don't like them think the vocals are too harsh or obnoxious, and the cure for this is to give them "The Argument."

I love their earlier albums for the guitar work, but The Argument seems to have the best atmosphere and individual songs to me.

That's off their "13 Songs" LP, probably their best. I'm pretty sure you can't classify them as emo, post punk or alternative. I think if you asked Ian he'd just say "angry music".
