MC5, The Stooges and crap? Yeah, but that stuff wasn't really full-out punk, and neither were the bands. The Ramones were the first really consistant punk band.

no, the Stooges were. They're just as 'punk' as the Ramones.

Well, they were definately moreso that way than a lot of their contemporaries, but I wouldn't look at them the same way as I do the mid seventies bands. There's definately punk in their music though, but "proto-punk" would be the best definition.

The sex pistols are godly. But you can't just say one band is better than another. Each one is different so just saying one is better is ludicrous.

I'd choose The Ramones over the Clash, but The Clash would be better if Joe Strummer had a different voice.

Meh. Tough question. I'll go with the Ramones for having honestly produced a greater number of good albums and probably being more diverse and eclectic too, all said and done.
