On topic,Clash hands down. I find the Ramones too much of the same, and I'm really impressed by how The Clash seamlessly embraced any music they felt like through their career. |

The Ramones were sort of a one trick pony. Sure they' played good punk, but I can only listen to about 3 or 4 songs before I feel like I know what's coming next and get bored. The Clash on the other hand flawlessly blended so many different genres that I can listen to them all day and not get bored. Not to mention Joe Strummer's work with the Mescaleros as well.
Clash all the way!

Yeah, I don't see the merit in comments like "The Clash sucks" without any kind of defense. The bald, honest truth is that Joe Strummer's artistic prowess outmatched that of Joey Ramone. I think that both are very desrving of whatever "countercultural" celebrity they've been awarded, but I truly believe that Joe Strummer was a far greater creative mind than any of the members of the Ramones. The Clash had versatility and vitality on their side, and Joe Strummer's social conscience definitely made itself present in the Clash's music. They get my vote without question, though I do acknowlege the importance of the Ramones.
Oh yeah, and "Nevermind the Bollocks" is quite possibly the greatest seminal punk album of all time. |

I agree with the above, The Clash wrote much more artistically sophisticated songs, incorporating reggae, dub, jazz and other genres into thier songwriting. The Ramones are great to, but their sound never really evolved, just simple 8th note pop rythems.
That being said as someone who grew up skateboarding to Hardcore I wouldn't even consider The Clash punk by today's standards. There more like an alternative rock band, while the Ramones with songs like "were a happy family" still sound punk. |

incorporating reggae = musical genius now?
also no they're not a punk band. they're major label rebellious anarchyists. **** them. put on some Rudimentary Peni and be done with these rock stars.
