I've given them both a more serious listen to and I gotta say I think The Clash is the better band.

What do you mean, rip offs? Surely they're not as bad as Coldplay with ripping off things...
EDIT: Or Oasis for that matter...

Oh please, tell me who they ripped off, I need a good laugh.

And while you're at it, explain to us why The Ramones were the pinnacle of originality.

The Clash = One of the most original, talented and ambitious early punk bands.

Ramones = Bay City Rollers as performed by less talented musicians with distorted guitars who only knew how to play in one key.

Ok, that may be a bit harsh, but it's mostly the truth.

the clash rips off-the who, bo diddley, sex pistols, bob dylan, ska groups

...yes they played an eclectic blend of music, but all of the music they played had existed before, and most of their songs are genre exercises-- most wedding bands know how to play a bit of everything.

....Yeah the Ramones ripped off 60's pop, but johnny's guitar playing, as simple as it was, was nothing short of revolutionary.
The Ramones are/were the pinnacle of originality.

Ah, I get it, you're one of those idiots who can't tell the difference between having influences and ripping someone off, I gotcha.

Seriously, none of those artists have anything in common and I can't think of any other bands that combined those influences in 1977. They took a whole range of influences that no band before them thought of combining.

Seriously, if you don't even know what "ripoff" means don't throw the word around.

All Johnny did was sped up Eddie Cochran riffs.

if you're trying to argue that the clash ripped off the sex pistols with the i'm so bored with the u.s.a/pretty vacant thing, good job, you can read wikipedia.

....no seriously, he removed the jangle out of playing power chords...just a constant downstroke....thrash, hardcore punk, etc. owe him a huge debt....it's like saying chuck berry just played blues riffs...but the way he played them was really innovative.

The ramones were genius.

I'd do anything for you to stop using genius. They were a great fun band, but I really don't think there was anything truly, genius about the Ramones. They toured nearly nonstop just to break even... is that really genius? :/
