...and to the other person, eclecticism doesn't make a band good. Most wedding bands can play oldies, ballads, contemporary, classic rock, and reggae. Most bands who make music for commercials, and technical support lines when your on hold can play almost any genre.

The Clash.
One of the first punk bands I got into, still one of my favorites.

Does it matter? They were both pioneers of the punk genre, and awesome bands. I want peace between Clash fans and Ramones fans. And I happen to like the Sex Pistols.

The clash beats both, no doubt.
Joe Strummer and Mick Jones were one hell of a pair. Mick Jones knew how to make that guitar scream like a banshee.
And If you ask me The Clash were much more musically diverse and advanced than The Ramones. The Ramones mainly stuck to their power chords, but they made it work.
And the sex pistols can lick my left they sucked.

Over the last couple of weeks I've basically listened to The Clash non-stop. London Calling is probably the best album I've ever heard. I disagree calling it punk though, since it lacks the sound often associated with punk. To me, it's really post-punk, perhaps the first such album. It grasps a vast amount of influences, a trademark of post-punk.

Their first album beats the debut of both the Pistols and the Ramones. I don't mind the Pistols, but the Ramones bores me to death. They just sound like The Beach Boys with x1.5 speed.

The Clash are the original punk artists. The Ramones are good but they are following in the Clash's footsteps.
