I would say David Johannson was more the front man of The New York Dolls, at least he was when I saw them and Sylvain was the second, with Thunders being third.

Johnny Rotten is a joke compared to the legend that is Joe Strummer. Some of you cats are straight trippin'. Shout outs to Ian Mackaye, Iggy Pop, and Henry Rollins.

I had to go with Danzig, I love the Misfits, and it's... Danzig, come on!

how is johnny rotten a joke????

You have selective reading, I said COMPARED TO JOE STRUMMER. I vaguely enjoyed The Sex Pistols when I was 13 or 14, so I have nothing negative to say about them or their frontman, besides the fact that they didn't contribute as much solid material that meant anything to me personally as The Clash/Strummer did, and Rotten still spends all his free time trying to be an a**hole.

FireInCairo 09-08-2008 12:57 AM

i think as a (punk) frontman...
johnny rotten kicks strummers ass (while i love the clash...a lot more than ive ever cared about the pistols)
and his work with P.i.L is pretty awesome.

he doesnt seem that much of an ******* these days
more of a clever subversive bastard
and being an ******* was the punk thing to do those days

the clash just seem a bit too agitprop you know
and they were more of a whole band thing

but c'mon its gotta be iggy pop
have any of the others been in a mental institution and were punk before punk was even a thing?

Before I even looked at the last posts, I had formed an attitude that just happens to be addressed in the last few comments. On the poll, I had to vote for Johnny Rotten, based on his charisma as a front man. I saw him a couple of times, while he was with PIL, and he is amazing on stage. Now, before you Strummer fans get your panties in a bind, Joe is BY FAR, my favorite Punk vocalist. It doesn't mean he is more charismatic than Johnny. Johnny was a showman. Joe was a MUSICIAN.

I wasn't aware this poll was based on charisma and nothing else.

There's only one: Johnny ****ING Rotten.

Also, someone forgot to mention the dude from The Exploited.
