Lets just all agree that the best stuff came around in music back in the late 60's through the 70's and forget that a prog-opposing bull**** genre called Punk ever existed in the first place k?

People should get the facts straight from the beginning. Green Day sold out after Dookie, though they weren't exactly talented in the first place. Good Charlotte and Fall Out Boy are not "sell-outs" because the only reason they were formed was to make money in the first place. Pretty simple. :)

The only thing I took away from that but good statement none the less.

Idk, the term "sellout" implies they were good at some point in time.

That can't be said for these bands.

Why do people try and restrict a bands creative boundaries? a band is allowed to change their style, there are green day songs with a very punk sound and other songs which are alt rock. At the end of the day it's just label that has been stuck on a band to categorize it and keep it separate from Brittany Spears.

Are you saying Spears is too good for labels?

To me sellout implies that the band have "sold" their music credit to instead just make money. I.e. abandoning their true style and instead just doing whatever the record company/ producers/ market says to make more dough. I guess if this is what has happened with Good Charlotte and Fall Out Boy then that is why they are labelled sellouts.

fob is fine... not great not terrible... as far as selling out, anyone who wants to make it these days needs some help.... there isnt one band youve heard of who hasnt "sold out" at least once... its part of getting recognized

Sure there are: The Selecter is a great "Ska punk" band.

the group "Madness" was originally(they still might be) a "ska" band, and they were HUGE w/: "Our House" in the '80s.

Also, believe it or not, No Doubt started off as a "ska" band out of cali(LB I think), and became successful as a more pop band. While I think ND is garbage, I have to give it to them for reinventing themselves as a pop band.

Not Fall Out Boy :/

No one knew who they were until that "We're going down, down blah blah blah" CD came out...
And MANY of us wish we hadn't today.

(They had another CD before that. That no one has really heard of. Meaning, not always mainstream...)
& they probably didn't sell 5 copies of it? their dogs probably bought a copy to cheer them up?

But they still suck.
Can't argue with you there. They do indeed SUCK.

The point was none of those bands were as popular as punk bands.

FOB's fist album was pretty good imo, didn't sound much like their stuff now.
