Well, whether they're sellouts or not doesn't change the fact that they are generic emo/punk bands with not an ounce of creativity in their bodies.

I would argue the accusation of being "sell outs". From what I've heard, they were always a Pop Punk band to begin with. Most of these Emo/Punk bands are really nothing more than Power Pop. They put on a Punk front, but it's nothing like the angry, angst riddled stuff of yesteryear.

Fall Out Boy, imo, is a sellout band, just becuase of their roots and what they turned into to sell albums. I don't care for those Fall Out Boys.
Good Charlotte on the other hand, is a bit different. They never sold out or changed their style. I don't like them much, but I by no means hate them. They never really sold out though. They kind of toned down who they were to get popular, then went right back to their original style. I guess you could call that selling out, but I'd say it was probably just so that they didn't scare kids off in a time when pop-punk was what you needed to key in on to get big in that kind of way. I saw a documentary on them, and their style of music and their style stye are simply theirs. If anyone wants to call them sellouts or biters, I just compare it to people as individuals. Nobody expects you to like everybody. What if somebody different from a different place gets successful. There's no reason to hate on some rando just because you dont agree with their style of dress or the way their band plays. But, yknow, alot of people do anyways. All in all, despite the fact that I don't dig their music much, and my girl used to have a madd crush on a dude in their band, I have no hard feelings towards them. Good Charlotte = Whatever F.O.B. = WACK! |
