that's a perversion of the term. The stuff that's going on today may be fashion based, but it's not faithful to the origins of the genre or the spirit under which it was founded. That's why critics have abandoned the term. I know there aren't any major critics who were punks (unless Lester Bangs counts) but they are the force that defines music in terms of the way it's verbally described.
