The No New York compilation is generally quite essential listening i'd say. Mars, DNA, The Contortions and TJ&J, its as good as it sounds.

I've been listening to

8-Eyed Spy
Bush Tetras (early)
Dark Day
Theoretical Girls
The Del-Byzanteens
Ut

recently, all pretty good.

I started a thread on Earth in the avant-garde forum if you haven't seen it already.

I'm been in a bit of a dark mood this evening. I've spent most of this evening listening to Skinny Puppy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and a pretty awesome but hugely underrated band called Usherhouse.

This song is a lost classic. From their album 'Molting' which was released in 1993 and produced by Steve Albini

I really enjoyed that, I am also in a bit of a down mood right now and it fit so well... any chance you have that album uploaded because I can't find it anywhere.

Here's a band to file under 'ones to watch'

They're a bunch of Londoners still in their teens and they've already supported the Horrors. They remind me a lot of the early-80's goth scene as well as Joy Division. I think they're releasing their debut album this year.

Thank you for this. Never heard of her before, but I've just listened to it and it's exactly the kind of music I like. Very unique.

Since this thread is about dark music from post-punk period or generally from the 80's, here's some that's not mentioned.

Tuxedomoon - Half Mute (1980)

Minimal Compact - Deadly Weapons (1984)

MX-80 Sound - I've started a thread on them in Avantgarde/Experimental forum, but with no response (maybe I should have done it in this forum?) Anyway, here it is once again - 'Why Are We Here' from Crowd Control (1981)

"Metal Box" by Public Image Ltd. Bleak, repetitive, nihilistic, nasty, snarling vocals, jagged guitar, bass black as hell brilliant. Check out songs "Albatross" "Death Disco" "Graveyard" "Poptones" and "Memories".
