this is my first post btw before i start... lol i got on here cause im sick of my winamp playlist and wanted some music idea's and saw this post. I used to be a HUGE GD fan. My first CD (not first greenday but first cd) was insomniac. I got it when i was like 7 or 8 or something haha... i guess it was pretty new when i got it like 9 years ago maybe... sound right? well anyways i went on to buy their older cds shortly after and really liekd the older punk sound that they had when they sounded more like a garage band. When i was that young i didnt really understand a lot of songs obviously but it was just the sound of the music i liked. I guess the real turning point for me was when nimrod came out.... i didnt like where their sound was going and the song on the cd i really hated and loathed was good riddance.... and then it ended up getting really popular and i was like WTF. that was their last cd that i bought and the last one i plan on getting. When they became mainstream i didnt like it at first becuase lets face it..... no one wants their favorite punk band to become mainstream on mtv and with high school sheep.... but then i realized how dumb that mentality was. honestly.... does other people likeing the same thing as u really lessen the experience for you? It doesnt change music that has already been made. I do feel kinda like green day sold out..... they changed their whole sound and stuff... but it may not have been selling out. Maybe they just did it cause they were kids and now are adults and just matured and their sound/lyrics evolved also...

for whatever reason and for whatever my post is worth for you... i dont think you should be mad that u are no longer an "underground" listener... if its really that big of a deal to u go out and find some other band.... and lets face it green day may not have been pop icons... but they were far from underground ever since dookie. I really dont listen to a lot of green day from after dookie came out.... or at all anymore.... like someone else said further up the thread....
