Horrorpunk

How many horrorpunk fans do we have here then? Personally, I can't get enough of the stuff. Misfits, Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13, Blitzkid, Black Eyes & Neckties, the list goes on and on. Does anyone else like horrorpunk or psychobilly for that matter? :]

The Reverend Horton Heat is a main mover-and-shaker of the psychobilly scene, and he is pretty awesome.

Dead-In-Horrorwood 08-26-2007 02:10 PM

I like Psychobilly Freakout by Revernd Horton Heat. But I haven't heard anything else by him. Any suggestions?

jacklovezhimself 08-26-2007 02:47 PM

there's a really good Horror Punk band the Horrorpops. They have a really hardcore sound and a female lead singer who is incredible.

Dead-In-Horrorwood 08-26-2007 02:49 PM

I've got one of HorrorPops albums. I wouldn't really say they've got a "hardcore" sound, though I love their music none-the-less. Their lead singer is hot though. ;)

The HorrorPops are genuine psychobilly, no doubt about it. But that's not a bad thing in the least. They're still amazing, and there's a whole bunch of good psychobilly bands both new and old (On the latter of those two, check out the Deltas if you ever get the chance; they've got this nice twangy classic sound). Klingonz are an all time favorite of mine when talking psychobilly, though.

As far as the horrorpunk discussion itself goes, it's really impossible to even have one without mentioning the Misfits, who were so instrumental in not only laying the foundations of horrorpunk, but bringing it to the recognizable status it has today. Although admittedly I think a little of that is everybody and their brother picking up Misfits merchandise these days.

For horrorpunk fans though, I seriously suggest checking out The Wrath and The Ghouls, a couple of bands I've fallen for lately.

check out Festering Breed. Its a horrorpunk Project a friend of mine and i started.

What makes something horrorpunk oro psychobilly? Is it a kind of darker instrumentals and more halloweeny subjected lyrics? I knew the Misfits were punk but I didn't know there was this whole subgenre. I'm interested.

walterzeddmore 07-15-2009 12:14 AM

darker Lyrics sang over a sped up 1950's Rock and Roll riff pretty much describes horrorpunk, In my opinion. lyrics usually constructed around favorite horror films or a lot of the time telling a story of ones death usualy a past girlfriend.
I love horrorpunk, some of my recent intersts are The Epidemic and The American Werewolves, I reccomend them to anyone who likes bands like Blitzkid and The Misfits

Shoe 07-16-2009 08:56 PM

I'm really interested. Can someone hook me up with an album? It would be greatly appreciated.

I picked up an album by this Australian band named Zombie Ghost Train, album called Gladrags and Bodybags its like evil surf rock mixed with some slower, moodier tracks with a 50s feel to them. The music sounds like a Spongebob Halloween party really twisted but fun.

I used to be mad on the Misfits and always preferred the Micheal Graves lineup.

That chick who plays double bass for the HorrorPops is quite attractive.

I'm sorry, that's all I have to contribute.

The Misfits are the best horrorpunk band imo.

The Cramps deserve a mention too.

Grit 07-22-2009 02:23 AM

Misfits, gorgeous frankenstein, mad marge and the stone cutters, nekromantix, the creepshow, coffin cats......hmm I just realised I might be a fan.

bass_girl 07-22-2009 12:24 PM

the Gutter Demons are an amazing psychobilly band everyone should check out, as well as the Brains. both are from Montreal.

and speaking of Montreal.. Bloodshot Bill is an amazing noise rockabilly one man band from there as well.

Next to Danzig-era Misfits, Calabrese is the best Horror Punk band around. If you haven't checked them out, you're missing out.

Horror Punk

I guess I just thought I'd make a thread for discussing horror punk bands like The Misfits, Murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Danzig etc. So, do we have many horror punks here?

someonecompletelyrandom 03-29-2010 08:45 PM

I don't know much about the genre, but I'd like to learn. I've heard of the Misfits. Any other recs?

B More Melo 03-29-2010 09:15 PM

Anybody wanna shoot me a PM with some good albums to listen to? Never heard an albums in this genre actually but it sounds awesome.

Insane Guest 03-29-2010 10:35 PM

Misfits one of my favorite bands. Every album has good songs to put forward to their massive collection of hits. Danzig or no, they are a good band.

Some good songs:
Bruiser
Last Caress
Where Eagles Dare
Don't Open Till Doomsday
Die Die Die My Darling
Dig Up Her Bones
Astro Zombies
I Turned Into A Martian - Just to name a few.

I think Balzac is just a gang of rip off punks that try to hard to make a new sound to the old horrorpunk sound, But all they do is failing. I can not see why anyone think they are better then for exemplar misfit! Blitzkid IMO is the greatest horrorpunk band touring today, they owe the Misfits heavily for their sound, but it's not a big deal because they are amazing and that is how horror punk is supposed to sound.

tgpo 04-08-2010 02:34 PM

Not enough praise can be slung at Calabrese. Other than Misfits, they're the only Horror Punk band that are interesting.

jack the stripper 04-18-2010 09:17 PM

i would definitely recommend Blitzkid and Calabrese for anyone who is just getting into horror punk. they are, in my opinion, the forerunners in this sub-genre currently. and rightfully so. as for psychobilly, Nekromantix is a great jumping off point. but there are far better psychobilly bands out there. here is a list of some awesome horror punk and psychobilly bands that i personally enjoy and think are worth checking out.
