Lightbulb English origins of Emo

I find myself completely confused by the term "Emo". I mean, come on, with bands like The Wedding Present and their discography (sorry, can't post links, but note the year of release). Better the first time around. Discuss.

Do you mean bands from England? The earliest one I'm aware of is Bob Tilton. Though some bands could've came before. I'm a bit confused of what the issue at hand is.

I dunno about Emo but i'd class The Wedding Present as a dreary waste of time who were only ever popular with music journalists , students & John Peel.
