What was your introduction to punk?

I'm just curious, as to what got people into punk rock originally.

For me, it was this girl who I had met, who introduced me to all this good punk, back when I was another lameass GC fanboy. Anyway, she got me into bands like the Clash and Bad Religion and DK. Unfortunately, it turned out she was a total cunt, and a cutter, so, we parted ways, but I'm still grateful she got me into punk.

I was into Blink 182 and Green Day a lot, like most of my friends at the time. Most of those guys quickly got into nu metal and stuff like that, but me and 2 other guys started getting more into what we thought was punk at the time. We found out about bands from each other, and it helped that one of those guys had a group of friends who were about 3 years older - and they were really into punk.

Anyway - most of my favorite early punk bands were Offspring, NOFX, Rancid, Operation Ivy, AFI, Bad Religion, Anti Flag, The Ramones etc. We were all into ska-punk as well - I remember the buzz after Streetlight Manifesto released their first album, which was played A LOT back then. Then one day, I was hanging out at one of the older guy's house and he put on California Uber Alles by the Dead Kennedys. I was blown away, and I went out and bought Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, after which DK quickly became my favorite band. From there, we got more into hardcore.

I think I was lucky to have such a great group of friends, and we were all really passionate about punk music. The older guys had a band, and I remember their first rehearsal - it was in a kitchen, with a 4 stringed guitar and makeshift drums. It was awful, but excellent at the same time, because of the excitement of us having a band within our group. Good days.

I think the first album I bought (except blink albms) was Ribbed by NOFX.

Watching some very young bands play a series of gigs at a local youth club when I was a schoolkid.
Bands with names like; Subterfuge, Red Alert, The Frantic Elevators, V2 and Abdominal Pain. The whole thing just blew me away.

The Misfits, The Ramones, and The Sex Pistols.

The Tony Hawk games got me really into it, but before that guitar teachers helped too.

The first time I heard any punk music was probably when I was 11-12ish, playing a Tony Hawk video game. I'd hear songs like They Boy Who Destroyed the World by AFI, and years later I'd hear the song and recognize it, pretty cool feeling.

my dad introduced me to The Sex Pistols and The Ramones at a young age. I didnt go on a punk pilgrimage myself until of course I was into Blink 182, and Sublime. I got Cheshire Cat and looked at some Kung Fu Records bands like The Vandals and found out about the descendents through sublime. Then I found out about NOFX. Fell in love with them, then I descended into the underground and obscure punk bands of the 80's and early 90's.
