punk = not mainstream garbage catering to the masses

pop = the opposite.

Even the concept of pop punk is a ****ing paradox.

um, no, you're very, very wrong. it's not even a matter of opinion. That's like saying no doubt (later stuff) is the same as ska. no, it's not at all. There's ska, and then there's THEIR watered down mainstream stuff that appeals to the masses. Same with punk, there's a VERY big difference.

Genres that are not popular music

Musical genres usually considered not to be popular music include:

* Most classical music, including opera
* Children's songs (including nursery rhymes and jumprope songs)
* Folk music, as created by traditional performers
* Gregorian chant, hymns, and many other forms of religious music
* Military music
* National anthems and other patriotic music
* Sea shanties and other work songs

That's great and everything but you've yet to tell me a straight and plain punk band. I don't think there's a difference between pop-punk and punk. I don't think pop-punk is watered down. Ramones and Descendents aren't watered down.

I highly recommend The Ergs!.

Hahahaha.

Hardcore, crust, anarcho, do not equal popular punk.

Pop-punk is not punk, beat yr. own kid is right, it's a complete paradox.
