punk isn't dead. Any DIY band I see in DC is what makes punk still sort of breathing. Or maybe it's just a zombie. In any case....if you make it big then yr not punk. Straight up. Punk isn't a sound that appeals to the masses. Punk isn't charging 35 dollars for a show with a barrier between you and and the crowd. You all really don't seem to know terribly too much about what punk really is.

It's true, plain punk is pop punk. Ramones, Sex Pistols, Bad Religion, Clash, Rancid, Casualties, all these bands that are considered "punk" just play pop songs with "anti establishment" lyrics.
^ Meh, Ramones were relatively poppy to begin with. And, while I like their music, wasn't what I'd consider punk. The Clash were sort of poppy. The Casualties weren't poppy, just aceholes. And Rancid...never really got into them. But I wouldn't say Bad Religion is pop with anti-establishment lyrics. Particularly not in the beginning. Pop-punk is not punk, beat yr. own kid is right, it's a complete paradox. ^ We CAN agree, Snickers.

The only local band I can see being *sigh*, "pop punk", and still maintaining an independent attitude is Common Misconception. www.myspace.com/commonmisconception (For all you "pop punk" lovers) Quote:
