Which Bad Religion record should I get first?

i've been downloading, burning and listening to them with friends, but haven't bought a CD yet. recently i decided to go old school and not download anymore. CDs have an intrinsic value to the music you can't take away. so in choosing which CD i'll get first, i've narrowed down my choices: against the grain, generator, or all ages. which one do you suggest as best? :hphones:

tjtech12 01-10-2007 02:54 PM

or possibly the empire strikes first, but it sounds like a polished radio record from what i've heard. i love all the MP3s or theirs i have.

cardboard adolescent 01-10-2007 03:26 PM

how could hell be any worse or 80-85 because it's their only good record. the rest are decent to mediocre, and the ones you mentioned are probably their worst.

tjtech12 01-10-2007 04:12 PM

thats your opinion. its punk rock, so you are quite welcome to it. however, i don't agree with you. bad religion is one of the worlds most original bands, and they hold up both in the punk/hardcore scenes and in the rock/pop area.

How would you know if you've never even heard an album?

And they're not original they kept the same sound for like what, 20 years?

tdoc210 01-10-2007 05:06 PM

lol @ blandlyness
worst pop punk evar

sleepy jack 01-10-2007 05:10 PM

^Uh, good lyrics, good music, how are they the worst pop-punk band ever? I wouldn't really consider them pop-punk either, way too heavy sounding. I wouldn't put them alongside the ramones and queers.

Having the same sound for twenty years doesn't mean you aren't original. Having the same sound as everyone else for twenty years means you aren't original.

Its punk, the genre isn't exactly bursting with creative and unique bands in most of the sub-genres.

I don't read them either, I hear them when I listen to the music and bad music? Have you heard some of their melodies? Look at the american jesus one of the best punk riffs ever.

tdoc210 01-10-2007 05:30 PM

if you think they are good, Good!, i just hate them, and my ears dont like them. My opinion, jsut giving my worthless opinion

cardboard adolescent 01-10-2007 06:50 PM

Like I said, most of the music they've recorded since the 80's isn't very good but I totally stand by their earlier output. And as for them being one of the "most original bands ever," that's just ridiculous. Flat-out laughable.

Ha. Ha.

White Lies 01-13-2007 12:21 PM

No Control
HCHBAW
Against the Grain
Suffer

in that order. Just don't listen to too much Bad Religion, they don't have the most varied output, to say the least.

tjtech12 01-13-2007 05:21 PM

i ended up having a bunch of money and i just ordered how could hell and against the grain. and i bought empire strikes first. i'm listening right now and its pretty damn good. can't wait until the other two get here.

ocpussy 09-12-2007 05:19 PM

how could hell be any worse my absolute favorite bad religion album,
never gets old
i actually have one of the songs stuck in my head rightnow

CaptainSuck 09-12-2007 05:55 PM

Bad Religion are boring as hell. They rehash riffs, harmonize vocals too often to make any impact upon delivery, and have never progressed stylistically.
If you're gonna put your ears through that, be mercyful and pick up HCHBAW.
Otherwise, get some Kerosene 454 if you're interested in "heavy" Pop-Punk that doesn't suck.

GravitySlips 09-14-2007 12:18 PM

I agree with above, but I actually don't mind Bad Religion.

Ha. I used to be stupid.

get recipe for hate first. my favorite of all of them.

XbrokenX 03-30-2009 10:18 PM

My personal favorite has always been "No Control." Graffin and the boys rarely disappoint, though. It is hard to go wrong, unless you chose "The New America" or "No Substance" as your one and only record. Both of those have some good individual cuts on them too, but are not start to finish amazing records. "No Control," "Suffer," "Stranger Than Fiction," and "The Process of Belief" are my choices for the most solid overall records.

I'm going to have to go with All Ages for this one. Most of these guys are right - they haven't really progressed with their sound too much, but lyrically, they can be right on point.

I don't think he's going to be coming back to read this after 2 years.
