There are the hardliners but a lot of us edge kids make it a personal thing. I don't push m beliefs on anyone, but if your gonna smoke/drink don't do it around me. If I get smoke blown in my face and that crap gets in my lungs than I have a problem, not that I would go and smash the guys head in, but yea I would ask him to not smoke around me. If it's a complete stranger I leave. minor threat coined the phrase straight edge but it was around before Ian. The complete dico. is a must!!

So sad that Minor Threat can't be discussed without all of the Straight Edge culture bull$hit being thrown around.
Even the other band members besides MacKaye (y'know -- the guys responsible for that incredible music?) had little to no interest in straight edge. And even MacKaye distanced himself from it as much as possible by the mid-1980s. To me, Minor Threat were and are the most important HC band. The musical "movement" they helped start is infinitely more interesting (and positive) than the XX stuff. |
